New Dane County task force aims to clean up lakes

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced in a press release Monday the creation of a Clean Lakes Task Force aimed at decontaminating nearby lakes.

In accordance with Parisi’s “Clean Lakes, Clean Energy” initiative in the county budget, he established the task force to organize new efforts and oversee the current work being done to reduce phosphorus pollution in the Yahara chain of lakes, according to the release.

Parisi said his goal is to restore the Yahara lake chain, which includes Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, to its former state.

"We have a once in a lifetime opportunity with the right resources coming together – public, private, agriculture, business – to do the work needed to get our lakes back to the way they were decades ago," Parisi said in the release.

County government representatives will work with delegates from other local organizations such as Clean Wisconsin and the Clean Lakes Alliance on the task force.
