Innovation Days competition to showcase UW students’ inventions

University of Wisconsin-Madison’s annual Innovation Days will bring together 21 UW-Madison students to show off their creativity and inventions in a competition for the chance to win more than $28,000 in prizes.

The competition, which began in 1994, aims to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation in students, as well as to continue research outside of the classroom, according to a statement released by the university.

Prizes include the Schoofs Prize for Creativity, the Tong Prototype Award and the Younkle Best Presentation Award.

Inventions entered in the 2013 competition include a washer-dryer that will allow people to quickly wash clothes, an automatic system for dispensing the right amount of baby formula and a tamper-proof wristband to cut down on underage drinking at events.

The event is open to the public and will take place at Engineering Hall Feb. 7 and 8.
