Madison police arrested four teenagers, ages 14 to 16, Tuesday afternoon for a weapons violation after an officer found the teens in a vehicle with a loaded handgun in its glove compartment.
The vehicle was parked in an East Washington Avenue parking lot when the police confiscated the gun, according to a police incident report.
The report says the teens are gang members who were looking to retaliate against rival gang members for a previous battery incident.
MPD Spokesperson Joel DeSpain could not release the names of the gangs, but said there have been problems with both in the past and police have been monitoring the individuals.
“There has been an ongoing feud…between these two particular groups,” DeSpain said.
The teens were taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on tentative charges of disorderly conduct, according to the police.
