Dane County trade union to vote on new contract agreement

Members of a Dane County trade union will vote Thursday to ratify an extended contract agreement with the county regarding financial aspects of employment for county workers.

The local Service Employees International Union reached a tentative one-year agreement with the county, allowing members to continue working pending approval from Thursday's vote.

According to a Dane County press release, the agreement includes reductions to personnel wages as well as employees voluntarily taking unpaid leave.

In the release, county executive Joe Parisi said those who worked toward the agreement are "part of the solution during our difficult budget times."

The tentative agreement, similar to that the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 60 union ratified Tuesday, opens up the possibility for the county to save almost $5 million in personnel spending, according to the release.

"In Dane County, we continue to find savings for taxpayers while protecting core services by using the right tools for the job — mutual respect and cooperation," Parisi said.
