Tenney-Lapham neighborhood residents do not agree about making one-way East Johnson and East Gorham Streets into two-way roads, according to Ald. Bridget Maniaci, District 2.
A report by the Strand Associates concluded keeping the streets one-way would best meet residents’ goals of creating a better environment for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The report surveyed neighborhood residents and allowed them to write in comments. About 50 percent of written comments favored the streets remaining one-way. About 20 percent favored making the streets two-ways and about 30 percent did not indicate a preference.
A majority of residents who live on Johnson and Gorham streets support keeping the roads one-way, Maniaci said. According to Maniaci, a greater proportion of neighborhood residents who do not live on Johnson and Gorham favor making the streets two-ways.
Maniaci said voting to keep the streets one-way does not restrict the city from making them two-way roads in the future.
