PEOPLE Program gets $300,000 grant

The UW-Madison branch of a scholarship program for minority and low-income students will receive a $300,000 grant to increase its academic enrichment programs for students pursuing higher education.

Known as the PEOPLE Program, the Pre-college Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence currently supports 1,200 elementary through college students by encouraging cooperation between students’ families, teachers and counselors, and working toward increasing low-income and minority student enrollment and graduation rates.

The Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation, a federal student loan servicer, provided the $300,000 grant, which will fund training initiatives on college admission and fundraising, among other programs.
