Police arrest brothers for drunk driving, stealing parking meters

Police arrested two Madison brothers for drunken driving and stealing two city parking meters early Wednesday morning.

According to the report, a UWPD officer pulled over a car and arrested the driver, Jacob Warnes, 24, for drunken driving and noticed two City of Madison parking meters inside the car.

According to Madison Police Department Spokesperson Joel DeSpain, the UWPD contacted the MPD.

"Mr. Zachary Warnes told a MPD officer that he and his brother had gone to a comedy club, that they parked in the nearby ramp, and that this brother pulled the meters loose," DeSpain said in a statement.

Police said the officer recognized the meters, valued at $300 each, and determined the meters were originally from the State Street Capitol Garage.

The brothers were arrested for theft and criminal damage to property.
