Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., said he would not run for political office in 2012 after failing to gain reelection Tuesday.
""I hope and I intend to continue to work with all of you in the future as much as possible,"" Feingold told supporters Tuesday. ""So it's onto the next fight. It's onto the next battle. It's onto 2012. And it is on to our next adventure – forward!""
The speech raised questions about Feingold's future and possible campaigns.
On Wednesday Feingold spokesperson John Kraus told Politico Feingold would not run for president against Barack Obama in 2012.
Sen. Herb Kohl is also up for reelection in 2012. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Feingold will not run against Kohl.
Kraus told the Wisconsin State Journal Wednesday Feingold will continue to work in Washington and will lobby against corporate special interest groups.
