The Madison Police Department arrested a man early Saturday morning after an attempted break-in on the 100 block of East Johnson Street.
Eighteen-year-old suspect Zachary Schmidlkofer of Verona was tentatively charged with criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The 24-year-old victim loudly screamed as the suspect kicked in the front door of her apartment building.
According to the police report, the suspect fled as the victim yelled. Officers found Schmidlkofer, who matched the description the victim gave, lying down underneath a balcony of a nearby home.
