Wisconsin has added San Jose State as a nonconference opponent for 2010, according to The Arizona Republic. The game will be played Sept. 11 in Madison.
San Jose State was originally slated to face Arizona State on that date, but dropped the Sun Devils to play the Badgers. Wisconsin will likely financially compensate the Spartans for their trip to Madison, an action the Badgers usually take when scheduling home contests against traditionally weak football programs.
San Jose State, which competes in the Western Athletic Conference, went 4-4 within its conference last season and 6-6 overall. The Spartans gained bowl eligibility after beating Idaho last season to improve to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the WAC, but lost their final three games and were ultimately not invited to participate in a bowl game.
Wisconsin's other nonconference foes in 2010 are UNLV and Arizona State. The contest against the Runnin' Rebels will take place Sept. 4 in Las Vegas, Nev., and the game against the Sun Devils will be in Madison Sept. 18.
The Badgers still have open dates Sept. 25 and Oct. 30 and will likely add one more nonconference opponent to fill in one of those dates.
