CNN's Money Magazine named Madison the second-best city for finding a job in a ranking of U.S. metropolitan areas with populations of 200,000 or more.
In the April issue of the magazine, Madison was praised for having only a 5.3 percent jobless rating with a population of 556,000. Boulder, Colo. took the top spot on the list with a 5.8 percent jobless rate among 290,000 residents.
The issue cites Madison's major industries as government, education and biotechnology.
Rankings are based on information from payscale.com and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. All cities on the list have unemployment rates below the national average and have a high proportion of professional jobs. Trailing Madison on the list is Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City, Utah, Lafayette, La., and Huntsville, Ala.
