The United States Bowling Congress announced Tuesday they will move their headquarters from Milwaukee to Texas, drawing criticism from state lawmakers and bowling enthusiasts.
The decision by the USBC would mean the loss of 230 jobs in the Milwaukee area.
State Rep. Jeff Stone, R-Greendale, said he was disappointed by the decision.
It is sad to have to say goodbye to an organization that was such an important part of our neighborhood,"" Stone said in a statement.
Stone said Wisconsin is more associated with bowling than Texas in the public's mind.
Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said any efforts to persuade the USBC were likely futile.
""Unfortunately, it seems clear that the United States Bowling Congress was set on partnering with the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America in Texas long before this announcement,"" Walker said in a statement, referring to USBC plans to coordinate with the BPAA in Arlington, Texas.
