Thirty-three campus-area lawmakers signed a letter Tuesday addressed to UW System President Kevin Reilly, expressing opposition to proposed segregated fee changes.
According to a press release, the lawmakers felt the changes proposed by the UW System Committee to Review Allocable Segregated Fee Policies would negatively impact out-of-classroom experiences provided by student organizations via segregated fee funding.""
The lawmakers authored the letter just two days before a UW System Board of Regents meeting slated to address the revised student fee policies and procedures. From Dec. 6 to 7, the Regents will discuss the policy review's key issues: State supervision of segregated fee dollars, the ability of Registered Student Organizations to rent off-campus space and the ability of organizations to hire non-university staff with student fees. Reilly is expected to reach a conclusion on the recommendations, the release said.
Segregated fees - included in all students' tuition - added up to $429.08 this year. The fee supports RSOs as well as campus services such as University Health Systems and ASM Bus Pass.
