Bring home some holiday cheer with these sports titles

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so - well it's out of control because your roommate isn't watching their ready-made casserole.

And since there is no place to go - because your outside doors are all snowed in - why not watch some great sports movies?

With the Holiday season approaching fast, nothing hits the spot like a good sports movie, so why not find that special film for that special someone?

However, with such a wide variety of sports movies, it is tough to make the correct choice and not end up with an Air Bud"" or ""Slap Shot 2.""

That's where I come in.

My vast knowledge of sports movies has finally become useful. So with that being said, here is a list of great movies that you, and your special someone, will greatly enjoy.

For the amateur pro golfer: ""Caddyshack""

I bet you love this film, 100 bucks! Chevy Chase stars as Ty Webb, the club-pro who would rather snort salt and eat lemons than cash in his golf tournament checks. Rodney Dangerfield is Al Czervik, the rude millionaire who is interested in buying the Bushwood country club.

And of course, Bill Murray plays Carl Spackler, the strange grounds keeper whose only goal is to destroy the menacing, dancing gopher that is terrorizing the golf course.

If you are looking for a gift that says, ""at least your slice doesn't knock people out""; this is the movie for you.

For those who love the ice: ""Slap Shot""

Paul Newman plays Reggie Dunlop, who used to be a great player/coach, but is now in that same role with the Charleston Chiefs, a small town hockey team in the middle of nowhere.

With the team failing, hostile crowds at every game - both home and away - and a horrific owner, the Chiefs are in a bad spot, and Dunlop considers retirement.

But with the acquisition of the Hanson brothers, everything changes. The Hanson brothers bring a new style to the rink, mainly violence and fighting.

If you love hockey like I do, you will love this movie.

For those who love to cry: ""Hardball""

Nothing gets the tears flowing like a story of underprivileged kids who get to play baseball. Keanu Reeves - yes that's right - plays a gambling addict who takes over the job of coaching the Kukumbas in order to pay off two bookies that he owes.

But the real gem in this movie are the kids, and it is impossible to not become attached to them as they learn to play the game as a team.

It's a story of second chances, both for these kids who are growing up in the Cabrini Green housing project in Chicago, and for Reeves, who is trying to break the lifelong habit of gambling and drinking.

If you want to snuggle up to that special someone and have a good shoulder to cry on, this is the movie for you.

For those who do like to gamble: ""Cincinnati Kid""

Any movie with Steve McQueen is a good one, but ""Cincinnati Kid"" is a great film about the ups and downs of poker. McQueen plays Cincinnati, an up-and-coming poker player who wins every pick up game and quarter toss he walks into.

With a big game approaching, Cincinnati has to be on his best to take down Lancey Howard (played by Edward G. Robinson) who is considered the best poker player in the world.

What results is the game of the century, as Cincinnati and Lancey go head-to-head, with the winner taking all.

This great poker drama will leave even the most compulsive player to turn off his laptop and rethink his life.

These are some great sports movies to usher in the New Year with. So when you head to the stores this Holiday season - whenever the snow melts - check out these films to make this season one to truly remember.
