Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will speak at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center Oct. 15, instead of the Orpheum Theatre venue as originally scheduled, his campaign announced Friday.
The location change was prompted after tickets sold out one week after going on sale for the Orpheum, 216 State St., which has a capacity of about 1,800.
The Senator will look to fill the approximately 3,000-seat capacity of Monona Terrace for his Countdown to Change"" tour. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event, with Obama's speech commencing at 11 a.m.
According to Ami ElShareif, vice chair of UW-Madison's chapter of Students for Barack Obama, Obama's campaign said by the end of last week the majority of tickets had been sold to UW-Madison students. Students receive a discounted rate of $15, while admission for the general public is $30.
Tickets for the event are still on sale and can be purchased at http://mybarackobama.com.
