State Rep. Mark Gundrum, R-New Berlin, a member of the 432 Army Reserves, has been notified he will soon serve in Iraq.
Gundrum will leave for more training in Fort Bragg, N.C., for several weeks and will likely be in Iraq by January, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Gundrum, 37, is a father of six and was elected to the state Assembly in 1998. He is the third ranking Republican in the state Assembly, becoming the Assistant Majority Leader in 2007. He is also chair of the Assembly Judiciary and Ethics Committee.
John Murray, spokesperson for Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch, R-West Salem, said no decisions have yet been made on who will takeover Gundrum's role as Assistant Majority Leader.
Huebsch has been in talks about appointing a new Assistant Majority Leader, but Gundrum did play an important role in the caucus, according to Murray.
We're certainly going to miss his leadership and wish him well,"" Murray said.
