The possibility of additional wrap buses driving down Madison's streets and other 2008 budget items were up for debate Tuesday at the Board of Estimates meeting.
Director for Madison Metro Bus Chuck Kamp outlined his department's budget and said the buses would bring the city additional revenue.
The wrap buses, sponsored by companies such as the Miller Brewing Company, were created to generate additional revenue.
In August, Metro Spokeswoman Julie Maryott-Walsh said the city would earn over $200,000 this year from the ads.
But City Council President Mike Verveer said he was not excited about new buses and expressed his concern over safety issues.
Verveer said the ads darken the windows and could affect vision. He likened the bus windows to tinted windows on cars and said the state checks tinted windows to make sure they are legal.
Verveer also said the Miller bus was inappropriate."" Wrap buses advocating gambling and alcohol have come under fire, but Ald. Jed Sanborn, District 1, said he didn't have a problem accepting money from Miller because they pay for free bus transportation on New Years Day and bring in a string of revenue.
