In just over a year, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell developed a reputation as the no-nonsense leader of America's top sport. Yet while suspensions handed down against Pac Man"" Jones, Michael Vick and ""Tank"" Johnson all seemed warranted, Goodell may have crossed the line with his recent reprimand of Oakland Raiders President Al Davis.
Noted for his combative personality and flamboyant ""just win baby"" attitude, Davis is also known around the league for his all-black, all-white attire.
Apparently Goodell took offense to Davis' love of the monotone duds and suspended the gracefully aging owner for two games.
""I think this will send a message to presidents and owners across the league,"" Goodell stated in a press release. ""I don't care if you are older than dirt. No one should be wearing white windpants.""
Davis could not be reached for comment, but a reliable source told the Jock Strap that the longtime Raider would move his team to Reno in protest.
Davis gained national attention when he moved the Raiders to Los Angeles during the 1980s, only to move them back to Oakland in the 1990s.
Baltimore Ravens owner and friend of Davis Art Modell could not comprehend the suspension.
""I can understand suspending someone for action that hurts the league, but this is just how Al always dresses,"" Modell said. ""It's ridiculous.""
Despite pleas from more than 23 NFL owners, Goodell refused to reduce the penalty.
""Every time I watch a Raider game, somebody always shows a camera shot of Mr. Davis with his bizarre suits and out-dated glasses,"" Goodell said. ""Who wears glasses with a gold chain that wraps around the neck? This isn't 1975.""
