Last month's flooding caused more than $5 million in damages to Dane County, according to the Department of Emergency Managment. The figure may rise even higher as more areas are evaluated. As of Aug. 31, close to 850 residences and nine businesses have reported damages from the floods. The federal government has yet to declare Dane County a disaster zone as requested by Gov. Jim Doyle. The public is advised to avoid beaches this weekend, as debris may be hidden by sand or water.
