Kenosha businessman John Erickson, who gave political donations to both President Bush and Gov. Jim Doyle, pled guilty Wednesday to two counts of campaign finance violations.
A U.S. Department of Justice release announced Erickson would now cooperate with federal authorities in the ongoing investigation. Erickson had created an illegal fund of corporate money to reimburse individuals who donated to over 20 different campaigns, according to the release.
The release stated the illegal campaign fund was over $250,000.
Erickson was also an associate of convicted millionaire Dennis Troha, who had pled guilty to similar charges of illegal campaign financing in June.
The two gave campaign contributions in an attempt to gain permission to build a multimillion-dollar casino in Kenosha. The two men also wanted trucking deregulation for the shipping company they operated.
Erickson now faces up to two years in jail and $200,000 in fines, according to the release.
The DOJ said the FBI is currently investigating the case.
