Student suffers injuries after 30-foot fall from Palisades balcony

A 20-year-old UW-Madison student fell from a Palisades apartment balcony and suffered numerous injuries, police said.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, according to a police report. UW-Madison senior Pete Basgen lives in the Palisades and said he heard a ""slushy slap"" at approximately 12:30 a.m. He said soon thereafter, he saw a man standing propped up against a wall and shouts for help echoed below his third story apartment.

Basgen said girls who knew the injured male told him the student suffered from two broken wrists and a broken elbow and hip. He said the student lives below him and most likely fell about 30 feet.

Police said the cause of the fall remains under investigation.
