The NCAA may extend the 3-point line by one foot starting in November of the 2008-'09 season.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the NCAA men's basketball rules committee agreed to move the line back from 19 feet, nine inches to 20 feet, 9 inches.
To officially change the position of the 3-point line, Thursday's ruling must also be approved by the playing rules oversight committee. They will vote on the rule May 25.
Committee chairman Larry Keating told the Tribune he expects the ruling to pass.
Keating also said the change would not take place until 2008 because of universities' budgets, which may have already been calculated for the 2007-'08 season.
The line change would mark the first alteration since the NCAA began using a 3-point line in 1986.
