State Rep. Steve Nass, R-Whitewater, has requested that the Joint Finance Committee disband and cease acting on the governor's proposed budget due to lack of cooperation and waste of resources.
In a letter to Assembly speaker Mike Huebsch, R-West Salem, and the Joint Finance Committee co-chair, Kitty Rhoades, R-Hudson, Nass said the current makeup of the committee favors state Democrats.
""The net result to date is horrible for taxpayers and fantastic for big spenders in the Capitol,"" Nass said. ""The committee ... has failed to remove any major tax and fee increases, but has reached some compromises on how to spend money.""
The committee is evenly split between the parties, but when the committee votes on items, an 8-8 vote automatically passes whatever the governor proposes.
Nass suggested the two parties prepare their own versions of the budget and meet at a conference committee for a ""showdown over the future of Wisconsin.""
