The Dalai Lama met Thursday with three Madison-area politicians to promote Wisconsin's efforts in bringing Tibet sovereignty from the Chinese government.
The authors of Wisconsin's Free Tibet resolution, state Reps. Spencer Black and Joe Parisi, both democrats from Madison, and Mayor Dave Cieslewicz met with the Dalai Lama in a private half-hour meeting.
Black described the Dalai Lama as ""warm and friendly,"" despite the serious subject nature.
""It was an exceptional experience, the kind you'll remember your whole life,"" Black said. ""The Dalai Lama was very eager to talk to us about what he viewed as the political situation in Tibet and possible solutions.""
The Dalai Lama was presented with a copy of Assembly Joint Resolution 22, which was recently passed by the Wisconsin Legislature. The resolution declared ""Tibet Day"" in Wisconsin and called for Tibet's freedom from China, and respect for their national heritage.
""Madison is an area that has welcomed the refugees from Tibet,"" Black said. ""It is also an area where people value freedom and have been willing to learn about and be supportive of the Tibetan people.""
