UW track earns four NCAA qualifying marks at Auburn

The UW men's track and field team returned from Auburn University this past weekend winners of three events and owners of three NCAA qualifying marks.  

 

Senior Demi Omole won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.22 seconds, good enough to earn himself a regional qualifying mark.  

 

Omole, along with sophomore James Groce, senior Dan Goesch and junior Paul Hubbard, came in first in the 400 meter relay, finishing the race in 40.64 to qualify for NCAA competition.  

 

UW was close to earning a fourth event victory as sophomore James Groce came in second place in the 400 meters, completing the race in 46.72. Meanwhile, senior Dan Goesch finished in sixth place with a time of 10.80 in the 100 meter dash as well as coming in fourth in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 21.94. UW junior Paul Hubbard claimed fifth place in the long jump event after leaping a total of 22 feet, 11.75 inches.  

 

In the decathlon, UW senior Joe Detmer claimed victory with a total of 7,296 points. In doing so, Detmer notched an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Detmer claimed victory in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.22 and the 1500 meter race in 4:21.95. Detmer tied UW freshman Sal Fadel for first place after clearing 14-11 in the pole vault. Fadel finished the decathlon in eighth place after recording 5,645 points. He was the only other Badger to finish the event.  

 

UW secured two more second place finishes after sophomore Joe Pierre recorded a season-best time of 1:51.17 in the 800 meters, and freshman Rory Linder threw 157-3 in the discuss.

The UW women's track team was in action at the same event this past weekend.  

 

Badger senior Erica Schoeller was the only UW athlete to claim a NCAA qualifying mark as she finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.95, fast enough to earn a regional qualifying time.  

 

Sophomore Jenny Soceka was the only other Badger to finish in the top three of an event after she soared over 11 feet, 7.75 inches in the pole vault to tie for third place. Sophomore Amy Dahlin claimed sixth place in the pole vault after clearing 11 feet, 1.75 inches. 

 

In the high jump, UW sophomore Megan Seidl tied for fourth after she recorded a height of 5'7''.  

 

UW senior Venus Washington tied for seventh in the long jump with a leap of 18'7''. Sophomore Chavon Robinson finished ninth in the same event at 18'5'', and tied for fifth place in the triple jump with a final distance of 39 feet, 10 inches.  

 

After competing in her first-ever javelin throw event, UW junior Kayla Schultz placed sixth place with a distance of 124'5''. Schultz also found herself finishing sixth place in the shot put event with a throw of 46'4''. Badger sophomore Amy Lewis claimed an eighth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 118'8''.  

 

The Badgers 400 meter relay team of Washington, junior Alex McCannel, sophomore Caitlin Dodge and senior Melissa Talbot finished the event in sixth place.  

 

Sophomore Amanda Hoeppner and senior Nicole Sauer came in ninth and tenth place respectively in the hammer throw, and senior Lindsey Lewis claimed tenth place in the 400 meter hurdles.
