UW student charged with burglary after strangling

UW-Madison law student and former Madison police officer Laura Walker, 36, was charged last week with burglary and reckless endangerment.

According to police, Walker broke into a 35-year-old Madison man's home on the 400 block of N. Sherman Avenue last weekend. Walker reportedly broke into the home, wrestled the man to the ground and strangled him.

Police said the man was able to break free from the struggle and inform police of Walker's actions. Walker reportedly threatened to kill the victim if he tried to call the police.

Walker, who was in her third year of law school, was reportedly a member of the Madison Police Department from May of 1999 to December of 2006. One of her duties during her time on the force was being a Public Information Officer.
