Pedestrian struck by drunk driver, breaks leg

A 25-year-old Madison man broke his leg early Friday morning when a drunk driver struck him on the 600 block of E. Johnson Street.

According to Madison police, Ryan Lange was driving along East Johnson Street when Daniel Ranck ran out in front of his vehicle. Lange was unable to stop in time and hit Ranck, propelling him nearly 20 feet.

Police said Ranck was partly responsible for the crash because he illegally ran out in front of Lange. Ranck was given a ticket for sudden pedestrian movement, while Lange was cited with an Operating While Intoxicated ticket.

Ranck suffered only a broken leg, according to the police report, despite being launched 20 feet through the air.
