Biomedical engineering students will combine their college-garnered knowledge with innovative designs to try and solve real-life problems in the Tong Biomedical Engineering Student Design Awards competition, beginning May 4.
""[The students'] work addresses real challenges that University of Wisconsin medical and life sciences faculty and area biomedical companies face and offer for the students to solve,"" a University Communications release said.
Inventions such as a tissue engineering bioreactor and a cardiovascular catheter will be showcased and assessed by six judges, who will seek ""technical merit, functionality, appearance and construction and adherence to client requirements,"" according to the release.
An expo at noon on May 4 in the Engineering Building will provide the students with opportunities to explain their projects. The Tong Awards ceremony begins at 4 p.m.
