UW-Madison's Surplus With A Purpose Shop, a store featuring wares ranging from used computers to bar stools to bicycles, will move from its 2102 Wright St. location to a Madison suburb, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Saturday.
SWAP's lease expired after the State of Wisconsin waived the right to buy it, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Selling surplus materials originally bought by the university, particularly furniture, technological equipment and office embellishments, the SWAP Shop has been a low-price alternative for UW-Madison students' home decorating needs since 1996. Before that, it was known as the Surplus Program, according to the SWAP website.
SWAP collects over 900 tons of state-owned surplus material per year, according to the website, and more than 98 percent of the materials are resold or recycled.
The SWAP Shop will move into its 1061 Thousand Oaks Trail location in Verona in September 2007, but until then, ""it's business as usual"" at the Wright Street location, SWAP Marketing Supervisor Tim Sell told the Wisconsin State Journal.
