A UW-Madison instructor did not report to higher authorities after a student revealed she was sexually assaulted at a UW-Madison fraternity, WKOW said Wednesday.
Although the victim has since withdrawn from the university, she was a student during the fall 2006 semester and has been in the media recently for saying she was sexually assaulted at a December Zeta Psi party.
The victim told WKOW she informed one of her teachers in the School of Human Ecology of the sexual assault during the fall 2006 semester. Under state law, the instructor would then have to report the assault that occurred in the immediate campus area to the Dean of Students Office.
However, Interim Associate Dean of Students Elton Crim has said the university did not know about the incident until February 2007, when the victim told her story to WKOW.
Madison Police Department told WKOW that, under policy, they inform the university when a student is the victim of a serious crime, but in this case the university said information was not shared early on. MPD and UW-Madison are still conducting their own investigations.
