Most students and residents have yet to recover from last weekend's blizzard, but Mother Nature has another round of winter weather in store for Madisonians in the next few days.
According to local meteorologists, sloppier winter weather is forecast for Madison on Thursday and Friday. NBC 15 meteorologist David George said Thursday will bring mostly rain, later mixing with snow in the evening and accumulating through Friday.
He also said if it were to stay below freezing, snow accumulations would rival that of last weekend's blizzard.
""The rainfall we're going to get [Thursday], if it were all snow, would probably be at least another five to ten inches,"" George said. ""It would be bigger than the one we just had.""
City officials have been working endlessly to clean up the mess left just five days ago. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said in a statement the clean up efforts have been tremendous, but the city should not rest because of the predicted weather over the next few days.
""City workers are making progress cleaning up from the historic weekend storm, but the next upcoming weather system will bring new challenges,"" Cieslewicz said.
George also said clean-up efforts are only going to be increased in preparation for this weekend. He said the forecast does not bode kindly for those walking in or shoveling remnants of what the weather may produce.
""Well, it means more wet snow to take care of, which is a pain,"" George said, ""and then probably with the melting it's going to get slushy and sloppy and refreeze.""
A statement from the mayor said on average, Madison receives 48 inches of snow over the entire winter months. Thus far, 43 inches has fallen in Madison, not including the accumulation expected during the next few days.
It was the snowiest February on record, according to George, and he said early March could pose the same problem.
""We're talking two big blasts from last Friday night to [this] Thursday,"" George said. ""That's very uncommon.""
