Students and Madison area residents will be able to view 183 international and independent films in their own backyard April 12 to April 15 during the ninth annual Wisconsin Film Festival.
The four-day film marathon, sponsored by the UW Arts Institute, brings independent, documentary, world cinema and restoration revival films from local and global filmmakers to 10 downtown theaters.
""This is probably the largest festival we've ever had in terms of the amount of programs, the number of theaters,"" said WFF Director Meg Hamel.
""The selection of films we've gathered for this year are really exceptionally good,"" she said. ""Each is so different in their subject, how they're made and where they come from.""
The festival also brings a diverse crowd to Madison, according to Hamel. ""In any given film, you'll see people in the audience that will include college students of all backgrounds, people from Madison, as well as folks from Dane County.""
The Orpheum Theatre serves as the central location, but Hamel said many people choose the theater they like best and buy tickets for every film reeling at that venue.
A complete list of films is available at www.wifilmfest.org along with ticket purchasing information. Tickets are sold per film and are $4 for students and $7 for non-students. They are also available at the box office located in the Annex Room in Memorial Union on the second floor.
