After a record-setting career with the Wisconsin Badgers, All-American goaltender Brian Elliott (Newmarket, Ontario) is moving on to the pros.
Elliott agreed to terms on an official contract with the NHL's Ottawa Senators and will start his career in the AHL, general manager John Muckler announced Wednesday. Ottawa had originally drafted Elliott in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Elliott led the Badgers to a national championship in 2005-06 and led all Division I goaltenders in winning percentage (.814), goals-against-average (1.55) and save percentage (.938).
""We're pleased to have Brian under contract as he had a great college career,"" Muckler said. ""He will join Binghamton and work with Dave (Cameron, head coach) and the B-Sens for the balance of their season.""
Elliott's statistics place him among the top goaltenders in NCAA history. He is currently ranked fourth in NCAA career save percentage and sixth in NCAA goals-against-average.
The Binghamton (New York) Senators of the AHL are an affiliate of the Ottawa Senators. Elliott should see playing time early on and will be in uniform this Friday night when the Senators host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
