UW men's basketball senior forward Alando Tucker was nominated by the Associated Press to be a first-team All-American Monday.
Tucker is the first UW student receive the honor, according to a University Athletics release.
Assistant UW-Madison men's basketball coach Howard Moore said the program is ""very excited, happy and proud"" of Tucker.
""[Tucker] is a very charismatic, talented individual whose conduct on and off the court represent what it means to be a student athlete at the University of Wisconsin,"" Moore said.
Tucker's ""willingness to be a spokesman and leader for the team,"" earned him the spot, Moore said.
Other players named by the AP include Kevin Durant of Texas, Acie Law of Texas A&M, Arran Afflalo of UCLA and Greg Oden of Ohio State.
Badger head coach Bo Ryan said in the release, ""Alando worked extremely hard over his five years to put himself in position to earn this recognition and he deserves it.""
Tucker is the all-time leading scorer in Badger history. He also is a finalist for the Naismith Award, college basketball's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.
