The Wisconsin State Patrol and Dane County coroner have pronounced two dead and three suffered injuries as a result of a single-car crash late Saturday night. Officers said that alcohol was a factor in the accident.
According to the state patrol, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by an unidentified male lost control as it entered the I-39/US 51 entrance ramp—located just outside of Madison. The car then rolled and landed on its hood, ejecting four of the five people in the vehicle. Two of the five—including the driver—were pronounced dead at the scene and the other three were taken to UW Hospital to treat their minor injuries.
Officer John Morrison said the names of the young adults have not been released as of press time due to some trouble at the coroner's office. However, he said that the occupants of the car are suspected to be from somewhere other than Madison and they do not appear to be UW-Madison students.
""We believe they are from somewhere up near Appleton,"" Morrison said. ""They probably came down here for a little fun.""
The state patrol said in a statement that alcohol was found in each of the five teens in the car. They also said that none of them were wearing a seat belt.
