Student hits pedestrian student with car outside Aberdeen

A UW-Madison sophomore was hit on the 400 block of West Gorham Street around 9:45 p.m. Thursday while crossing the road in front of the Aberdeen apartment building.

The victim said he saw white cross walk lines in the street but noted it would have been hard for a driver to know because ""there's no sign that there's a crosswalk.""

He said he entered what he thought was a crosswalk and then was stuck by a car.

However, the UW-Madison sophomore who struck the victim told a different story.

""The kid was drunk and fucking with traffic. He jumped in front of my car,"" said the driver of a Ford Escape.

""He jumped out a little so I put on my brakes, then he jumped back, so I started to go again—then he jumped directly in front of my car. I slammed on the brake—luckily I only hit him about 15 mph,"" he said.

After hitting the victim, the driver said he pulled over and got out of his car.

""He had about 15 friends with him. I got out of the car and expected a fight, but they were cool. They were all drunk though,"" he said.

Madison police were on scene. The driver maintains that he ""took a breathalyzer and blew 0.00.""

He said he speculated a couple of the victim's friends ""might've gotten underage tickets,"" but that could not be confirmed by police as of press time.

Madison paramedics bandaged the victim's minor right hand injuries on scene and released him. It was unclear whether or not he had received a citation from police.

""I can't believe this happened to me,"" the victim said. ""It's scary to cross the street here.""
