Police are searching for two suspects they believe were involved in a string of four armed robberies at gas and convenience stores on Valentine's Day.
""The information we have suggests that it is two suspects acting together,"" said Madison Police spokesperson Mike Hanson.
Police reported that early Wednesday morning a black male in his 20s, wearing a white baseball cap and an orange-brown letterman-style jacket, robbed the Open Pantry at 2703 W. Beltline Highway.
He reportedly appeared to be making a purchase when he hinted that he had a weapon and demanded cash. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, the report said.
A black male dressed in similar attire robbed the BP Gas Station, 4222 E. Washington Ave., early Wednesday morning. He revealed a handgun and demanded cash. Before police arrived, he escaped with the cash.
Police indicated that a black male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and black leather jacket robbed the Citgo station, 1010 N. Sherman Ave. later that evening. He also showed a handgun and demanded cash. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
In addition to the other robberies, police said a 20 to 30-year-old black male sporting a white baseball cap, a white shirt and a black leather coat, entered the Clark gas station, 1129 S. Park St., and said he was armed. After demanding cash, he robbed the store and proceeded to flee on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Hanson said he could not recall a situation like this happening within the last few years. Still, he said Madison is a big city, so days such as the one on Valentine's Day happen.
""It is not unusual for there to be multiple robberies in a city our size,"" Hanson said.
