In a time of increasing globalization as international law takes higher precedence in intercontinental legal issues, UW-Madison has taken the next step to provide education on these issues and attract international scholars.
The University of Wisconsin Law School and Division of International Studies announced its intention to establish an official Global Legal Studies center Tuesday.
The center will concentrate on promoting international and comparative law research, networking with scholars in other countries and sharing expertise with local and international colleagues, according to a University Communications release.
""This is a milestone in our efforts to expand global opportunities for our students and faculty, and an appropriate next step for the Law School, with its long tradition of international engagement,"" Global Legal Studies Center director and UW-Madison law professor Heinz Klug told University Communications.
The original Global Legal Studies initiative was launched in 2004, and the UW-Madison Academic Planning Council granted approval for the center in December 2006.
""It creates new opportunities and venues for collaboration across campus, especially between the professional schools,"" continued Dean of the Division of International Studies Gilles Bousquet.
The Global Legal Studies Center will be housed within the University of Wisconsin Law School's Institute for Legal Studies.
