UW-Madison student government's court heard an appeal Monday night from a law student petitioner trying to overturn the results of the previously approved Student Union Initiative.
The Associated Students of Madison Student Judiciary was still debating with UW-Madison first-year law student Patrick Elliott over his appeal as of press time.
Chief justice and UW-Madison junior Josh Tyack and other members of a Student Judiciary panel ruled to dismiss the case last week. Elliott and five other students originally filed a complaint claiming the SUI campaign was waged unfairly, with misleading advertising and wording that seemed binding.
The ASM Student Elections Commission and the Judiciary found the SUI to be in accordance with all the ASM Constitution and Bylaws, and the case was dismissed.
Elliott filed an appeal Sunday night. During his arguments, Elliot focused on the fact that the SUI referendum wording was not publicly advertised to students before the election.
