Late March, 2006:
- Associated Students of Madison holds Spring 2006 election, voting on living wage and Union referenda, as well as ASM representatives
- ""Unprecedented voter turnout:"" 17 percent of the student body, mobilized by two polarized referenda, renders results invalid by overwhelming electronic voting system. Inability to fix problems with DoIT's voting system delays re-voting.
April to early May, 2006:
- Students rally to create alternative student government, denouncing ASM's bureaucracy and stagnancy.
- WUFIP fails and Living Wage passes in second attempt.
- Four hundred and thirty-six electronically submitted votes appear blank. Entire election nullified. Third election offers opportunity to vote for representatives, uses paper ballots and has 3 percent voter turnout.
- Referenda votes to be held in Fall 2006.
- Makeshift Student Government dissolves.
