Growing up in Milwaukee and Waukesha I learned to respect the law, and to put it to use to make Wisconsin a better place.
It's these values that draw most students here, like my son, a recent UW graduate. And that's what drew me here to UW Law School. I wanted to make a difference as an environmental lawyer.
I began my career as a lawyer 29 years ago, arguing my first case in the Wisconsin Supreme Court on behalf of consumers and the environment, and I won. I know my way around a courtroom.
For 14 years I served as assistant attorney general. For 12 of those years I was a Public Intervenor, our state's environmental watchdog. In fact, we were so successful, the Republican governor abolished the watchdog.
For the past 10 years I have been privileged to serve as Dane County executive, working with campus and community leaders to improve public safety. I have worked with students and the university on important campus issues such as sexual assault and alcohol, as well as improving the public transportation system.
As your attorney general I will work to protect our children, get gangs off our streets, stop the spread of dangerous drugs, stand up for the environment, and protect Wisconsin consumers and their identities.
I have outlined policy proposals to find real solutions to the real problems facing Wisconsin. You can read them on my Web site, www.kathleenfalk.com.
As attorney general I will work to reform a broken criminal justice system that spends two times as much putting someone in prison than putting a child through school, and puts a disproportionate number of young people of color in prison.
I will initiate an environmental strike force that will identify the worst environmental crimes to bring the violators to justice and protect our most precious natural resources.
I will re-prioritize resources to fix the DNA backlog at the crime lab.
I have spent my life and my career putting the law and government to protect our communities, our families, and our most fundamental rights. That's why I am opposed to the mean-spirited, politically charged, anti-gay amendment proposed by the far right.
We need our strongest Democrat on the ballot this November. And that's why Democratic leaders and progressive organizations have endorsed my campaign in this primary—leaders like mayors, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and legislators from all across the state.
Throughout my career, UW students have supported me in record numbers. I ask for your confidence and your vote in this important race for attorney general.
