Grandma Green's Fresh Apple Cake 

 

 

 

1 cup of shortening  

 

2 tsp. baking soda 

 

2 cups sugar  

 

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs  

 

1 tsp. nutmeg 

 

2 tsp. vanilla  

 

1 tsp. cinnamon 

 

1 cup raisins  

 

1 cup walnuts (optional) 

 

2 cups flour  

 

6 cups sliced tart apples 

 

 

 

1. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and mix. 

 

2. Sift dry ingredients and mix well. 

 

3. Add nuts, raisins, and apples, mix by hand. 

 

4. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan. 

 

5. Pour mix into pan. 

 

6. Bake at 350A° for 45 minutes. Makes 12 servings. 

 

 

 

 

 

Vivian's Apple Pie 

 

 

 

1 10-inch deep-dish pie shell â_ bake 10 min. 

 

3-3 A½ lbs. Apples, combine at least 2 varieties 

 

Combine pared, cored and sliced apples with the following: 

 

1 cup dark brown sugar 

 

A¼ cup cornstarch 

 

1 teaspoon cinnamon 

 

Mix well and spoon into pre-baked shell 

 

Combine in a large bowl and mix well the following: 

 

1 cup dark brown sugar 

 

A½ cup rolled oats 

 

A½ cup flour 

 

A½ cup(1 stick) melted butter 

 

Sprinkle and pat over apple mixture 

 

Bake until golden brown and juices are bubbling, about 50 min. @ 350 degrees
