Softball picks up one win

Wisconsin's softball team (4-8 Big Ten, 19-19 overall) went 1-3 during a weekend road trip that included two games against the Indiana Hoosiers, and another two against the Boilermakers of Purdue.

Friday afternoon against Indiana, Wisconsin could not overcome an early three-run deficit, falling 3-1. Sophomore Joey Daniels recorded Wisconsin's only hit of the game with an RBI single in the fourth. Eden Brock was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on six hits in five innings.

Saturday afternoon, a six-run fifth inning was too much for the Badgers to overcome as it dropped its series finale with Indiana 9-1 at the IU Softball Field. Eden Brock suffered her second straight loss, while Indiana's Mariangee Bogado earned her second win in as many days.

After their 0-2 start, the Badgers took down Purdue on Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Softball Complex with a 6-2 win. Alexis Garcia knocked two big hits for three RBIs to propel Wisconsin.

Garcia finished the game 2-for-4 with her fourth career double, also tying her career high by driving in three runs. Valyncia Raphael went a perfect three-for-three on the day, recording the first three-hit game of her career.

Brock worked a complete game, scattering six hits for two runs, only one of which was earned. Brock also struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Sunday, the Badgers mounted an exciting two-out rally in the seventh, but could not overcome Purdue's lead, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Boilermakers.

Theresa Boruta hit the first home run of her career with a two-run shot to left with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough. Eden Brock (15-10) pitched for the second straight game and gave up three runs while allowing ten hits in the complete game loss.
