Chances are you've met Jesse Weber. But after hitting up the house parties on Saturday night, you may not remember him.
Weber is the Saturday night Doughnut Man at Greenbush Bakery, 1305 Regent St., a campus hotspot for late-night treats.
You can definitely identify the regulars at Greenbush. Whether it's a Boston Cream with chocolate frosting or a golden brown Apple Fritter, they know what they want. Even when customers rattle off orders of several dozen, Weber keeps up, with the doughnuts boxed and rung up before the customer can put the cash on the counter.
For the more indecisive customers, Weber offers aid. He recalled once consoling a customer who, after a long night of partying, burst into tears at the sight of blueberry doughnuts. According to Weber, the customer favorite is a classic glazed, but he also recommends the more exotic Pumpkin Spice cake doughnut.
Weber also said he enjoys hearing customers' Greenbush memories.
Many people come in and look at the Madison pictures [in our entry] and tell stories about their college days,\ Weber said.
After cleaning up for the night, Jesse ends his reign as the Doughnut Man until the next week. He said it sucks when you miss a party or show on the weekends, but then again, the money is good, and there are always those pastry perks.
""I hook my friends up with doughnuts,"" Weber said, ""I am the Doughnut man.""
