Slayings lead to $500,000 pot discovery

Following the homicide investigation of two victims in Blanchardville, Wis., law enforcement officials uncovered large amounts of cultivated marijuana in an elaborate indoor growing facility west of the scene of the crime.Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley said the marijuana had an estimated street value of $500,000. Bradley Fandrich, the man in charge of the operation, shot and killed two armed trespassers before taking his own life last Thursday, said resident Agent Sergio Ceren of the Madison Drug Enforcement Administration office. The Madison DEA office is assisting the Wisconsin division of criminal investigation.Investigators also discovered handguns, military rifles, video surveillance cameras and marijuana farming paraphernalia at the indoor growing operation.

It appears to be high grade, if there is such a thing for that kind of poison,\ Pedley said.Wisconsin Department of Justice spokesperson Kelly Kennedy said the amount of weapons found and the different kinds of drugs at the operation made for an unusual case.According to Ceren, even though marijuana is the most widely used drug in Wisconsin, some of the highest amounts of marijuana grown for distribution come from Mexico. The investigation is still in progress and further interviews and warrants are forthcoming.
