Following Tuesday's vote in the state Assembly that will allow Wisconsin citizens to decide on whether to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage and civil unions, organizations on both sides of the issue will focus on strong efforts until November.
Action Wisconsin launched Fair Wisconsin, a statewide campaign aimed at defeating the proposed amendment.
Joshua Freker, spokesperson for Action Wisconsin, said Fair Wisconsin is focused on educating people about the amendment and what may be at stake if passed in November.
'The campaign training is a way to kick off the official Fair Wisconsin campaign and introduce some of our ongoing voter education activities,' Freker said. 'It's also an opportunity to showcase some of the unique voices against the amendment. Increasingly, we have support for our side from Republicans.'
Julaine Appling, executive director of the Family Research Institute of Wisconsin, said her organization has been mobilizing people for two years.
'We will continue to do mobilization efforts focused on November. One thing we've already done is distribute 5,000 DVDs on this marriage issue,' Appling said.
She said the Family Research Institute is working with groups from across the state, with focus on the religious community of Wisconsin.
'All the things you do for a campaign of this nature we're prepared to do,' Appling said.
