Wet and unplayable conditions brought the third and final round of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate to a halt before it even began Tuesday, as the Badgers finished tied for ninth with a score of 605.
Wisconsin finished the event tied with North Carolina-Wilmington. Their final score was 13 shots behind the event's winner, Southern Methodist. However, their ninth place finish did put them in front of Big Ten rivals Illinois, Penn State and Michigan, in addition to rival Marquette.
Junior Garrett Jones continued his hot hand, leading the way for Wisconsin. Jones tied for 13th overall shooting a 5-over 149. The Rewey, Wis., native has now finished 21st or better in each of UW's three tournaments so far this semester. Jones has also picked up six straight finishes of 23rd or better and nine of his last 10.
Freshman Tyler Obermueller and sophomore Jeff Kaiser tied for 20th overall, both shooting a 6-over 150. The finish was the second-best of Obermueller's career. He tied for 16th at the Memphis Intercollegiate in October.
SMU Junior Colt Knost won the event with a 1-under 143.
Wisconsin starts up again on April 8 when they play in the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
