Volunteers from the English as a Second Language Institute spent the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning searching in vain for missing Japanese student Kenji Ohmi.
Ohmi, 20, has been missing since Jan. 28, when he left his apartment at 202 N. Hamilton St. He was enrolled at the Wisconsin English as a Second Language Institute before his disappearance.
The search team, which consisted of approximately 20 people from the institute, along with others enlisted to help as the effort unfolded, combed the area around Ohmi's apartment and the Capitol.
Ohmi's parents came to Madison earlier this month and his mother, Hiromi, who speaks no English, remains in the city. His father recently returned to Kyoto, Japan to care for Ohmi's two siblings, ages 17 and 19.
Police continue to investigate Ohmi's disappearance but have not released any details about the search.
Ohmi was last seen wearing a black jacket, jeans and white shoes. According to the police, he speaks no English.
