UW football running back and UW-Madison freshman P.J. Hill allegedly wielded a baseball bat during a disturbance outside Sellery Hall at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 26, resulting in a charge for misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed, and indefinite suspension from the team.
Hill, one of eight UW football players arrested or cited by police in the past two months, will appear in Dane County Circuit Court Feb. 27.
'What happens is going to be entirely up to him and the court system as far as how it goes from there,' said UW Police Lt. Eric Holen regarding possible legal consequences.
Three other UW football players, freshmen Jonathan Casillas, Elijah Hodge and Jaevery McFadden, received citations for UW-Madison administrative code violations and will appear in court Feb. 17.
Coach Bret Bielema has not issued any statement on preventing further misbehavior, or the prospects of the UW football team next season without these eight players.
'Every one of the athletes at the university is continually and on a yearly basis educated about a number of things, whether it be drug or alcohol abuse or relationship issues or etiquette or behavior types of things, or what not,' said Director of UW Athletic Communications Justin Doherty. 'I know those types of education will continue, and that's what the athletic department does as a whole for all of our programs.'
