Driver’s pre-existing medical condition led to accident that killed UW student

The driver of the car that crashed and caused the death of a UW-Madison student Sunday lost control of his vehicle because of a pre-existing medical condition, Madison police announced Wednesday.

Brett Pelch, 44, of Verona, fled the scene of the accident at the Midvale/Verona Road exit of the Beltline highway after rear-ending a car being driven by UW-Madison post-secondary education student Andrew Eastman.

Eastman, 27, had recently transferred to UW-Madison from Madison Area Technical College.
